Odisha Mission (Khariar Road):

 

His grace the Late Most Rev. Dr. Alexander Mar Thoma Metropolitans visionary approach and desire were the means that put the foundation and formation of Orissa Mission at Khariarroad.Orissa Mission at KhariarRoad, Odisha was established in the year 1985 and is under the direct supervision of His grace the Most. Rev. Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan, Diocesan Bishop, Niranam- Maramon Diocese. The work of the mission is spread in 2 states- Odisha and Chhattisgarh, to about 60 Villages lying 200 Kms around Khariar Road.

At present there are 2 Missionaries and 8 evangelists who render their services in catering to the spiritual and other needs of around 140 believers and around 120 Seekers. The mission work is spread in 9 centres namely- Silda, Khariar Road, Maharani Meripur, Badigada, Padampur, Amanpuri, Komakhan, Kantabanji and Jadamunda where are our evangelists reside and work.

Orissa Mission runs 2 hostels at Khariar Road main Campus- Nav Jeevan Boys Hostel and Balika Bhavan Girls Hostel where 59 Boys and 34 Girls stayed and studied during the last financial year.The mission runs 3 Village Hostels,two for Boys at Silda Village and KantabanjiVillage where a total of 15 students resided and studied last year and one village Hostel at Maharani Meripur for girls where6 students studied.  Students from Class 3- Class 10th reside in our hostels and opportunity is provided to the students who are willing, deserving and capable to study till Class 12th and even further.

The Balawadis are functioning regularly at 6 villages where around 25 students come regularly to attain primary education. The works of the balawadis are supervised by the evangelists. Tuition classes for Hostel students from class 6th to 10th is held at Orissa Mission Chapel and financial help for tuitions for college students (Class 11th and 12th) is met from the Mission.New tuition centers were opened at Amanpuri Centre, Kudranpali village of Padampur Centre, Badikata Village and at Silda Village Centre. Children at an average of 25-30 are attending in the evening time for the tuitions in these areas.

During the year, scholarships for higher education was provided to 4 students who are pursuing their graduation in Odisha and to one student who is pursuing B Ed from Chhattisgarh. Our evangelists visited around 5 schools and 2 colleges in and around Khariar Road. They interacted with many students and took moral education lessons. Special sessions and visits were done in 4 Shelter Homes run by the Odisha State Government between December to March where children of Brick Building Labourers reside.

V.B.S was arranged for hostel students during the summer holidays in April at the Khariar Road Orissa Mission Chapel and other Mission Centres in various villages. In a total of 7 VBS centres around 450 students attended. Practical Trainee students from Mar Thoma Theological seminary gave leadership in the V.B.S. 

Christmas Carol services were held in 13 Villages in Chhattisgarh and Odisha. Our evangelists also participated in the Christmas celebrations held at GurukulVidyapeeth, Komakhan. Our hostel students displayed their talents by arranging various programmes in these places. A special Christmas carol was organised for the inmates  and Staff of Padampur Sub Jail

As part of the social outreach programme Winter Blankets and mosquito nets were distributed amongst the believers and seekers of all village centres under Orissa Mission during the year. The second Odiya Convention was organised in mission campus during the month of December along with 33rd Mission Day celebrations. As many as 400 people from various Christian denominations participated in the Convention.

Orissa Mission along with its evangelists and students had participated in the Ecumenical Christmas Carol service and rally organised jointly by the Mar ThomaCongregation,Khariar Road and Prem Marg CNI Church, Khariar Road at the Prem Marg CNI Church, Khariar Road on 25th of Dec, 2018. The hostel students performed various dances and a skit which was very much appreciated.

The Gurukul Vidyapeeth English Medium School run by the mission in Komakhan Village of Mahasamund District in Chhattisgarh is the only English Medium School in the 25 Km radius and students from nearly 50 Villages come and attain education. The school is a great medium to educate the children and through them their parents and society at large which is economically and socially backward, caste driven. The school had 170 students with 13 teaching and 5non teaching Staffs during the previous academic year. The school is functioning from Nursery – Class VIII in rented buildings. Lack of own buildings and school buses are a major challenge before the school. Rev. Ronald Raju  is serving as the missionary.
